The early 19th century schoolhouse in the ghost village of Tyneham has been restored and is presented as it would have been when used as a school room.

This single-room school was a National School and today is home to exhibitions detailing the past of Tyneham village. The desks are all arranged with display material presented on them and a blackboard details recent conditions in the village. The school closed in 1932 and the whole village was abandoned when the MOD took over the area and evacuated it during World War II.
The previous villagers request:
'Please treat the church and houses with care; we have given up our homes where many of us lived for generations to help win the war to keep men free. We shall return one day and thank you for treating the village kindly.'
Tyneham School is now a museum and is open from 10am to 4pm at weekends, depending on MOD training. Further information is available by calling 01929 404819.
