ELPIDIO R. QUIRINO
(1890 - 1956)

Elpidio Rivera Quirino (November 16, 1890 – February 29, 1956) was a Filipino lawyer who entered politics serving in various rolls including senator, a number of cabinet positions, vice-president, and finally as the sixth president of the Republic of the Philippines from 1948-1953. He was also part of the independence commission sent to Washington, D.C. in 1934 and was part of the convention that wrote the draft for the constitution for the new commonwealth the following year.

Quirino was actually the second president of the Third Republic of the Philippines. When the United States granted full independence to the Philippines on July 4, 1946, Quirino was installed as vice-president, the office he held in the final administration of the Commonwealth of the Philippines. When President Manuel Roxas died lest than two years late, Quirino was sworn into office two days later on April 19, 1948.

This statue is a bronze bust mounted on a granite base with a plaque in tagalog attached highlighting Quirino's contributions to the Philippines.
