This Memorial is undated, but I imagine it was placed shortly after the war, probably in 1920. It is located in front of the Old County Courthouse in downtown Durham with other war memorials - see photo above.
The monument was placed by the Durham County chapter of a fraternal orgainization I had never heard of - The Junior Order of United American Mechanics. The Jr. OUAM is still in existence, but I can't locate a current Durham County chapter.
The monument reads "Dedicated To Those Who Served in the World War - 1917-1919". Below is the "Roll of the Honored Dead" listing all the Durham County Residents who died in the war.
This monument shares space at the Old Courthouse with the WWII Monument, the Korean War/Vietnam War Monument. The Civil War Monument is nearby as well.
To record your visit to this waymark, a photo is required. Please post this along with some comments about your visit or the memorial. Logs without photos will be deleted. Thanks.
