This baroque church was build in the 17 ch. it is inspired on the
Gesu church in Rome.It is one of the finest baroque art church left in Belgium.The church of Saint-Loup is one of the most remarkable churches of the 17th century in Belgium.
Arrived at Namur in 1610, the Jesuits took again a small college, increasing it and built besides a church dedicated to Saint Ignace de Loyola the founder of the Society of Jesus.
The construction spreads out between 1621 and 1645. As for the majority of the baroques churches, the roof was originaly higher than the frontage. But by lack of money during the construction, the Jesuits had to re-examine their plans, the rear of the church being lower than envisaged.
After the leaving of the Jesuits in 1773, the church of the college became parish church under the term of Saint-Look, taking the name of an oldest church, located at Place du Marché au Légumes, and demolished at the same time.
