Is the eighth tallest building in the European Union and the tallest building in Poland. It is now the 187th tallest building in the world.
It was constructed between 1952 and 1955 using soviet plans and soviet workers, almost entirely 3500 workers from the Soviet Union, of whom 16 died in accidents during the construction.
The architecture of the building is closely related to several similar skyscrapers built in the Soviet Union of the same era, most notably the Moscow State University.
Today, it’s a very controversial building, and one of the most important landmarks of the city. However, many people dislike it, because it is a symbol of the soviet dominance.
Along the years, Warsaw has acquired other skyscrapers of similar height and the city skyline is much more harmonious.
