Located in 'old Penang', this building was constructed in 1903, in the Edwardian Baroque style, to meet the growing governmental demands of the prosperous city of George Town, and the state of Penang. Since then it has been refurbished and changed function on several occasions. At this time it houses the Municipal Council of Penang Island, which administers the more mundane (sanitation etc.) under the Penang state government.
The building is clearly well maintained and is part of the tourist circuit of the island. Surprisingly, security was non-existent when I visited. I had a short look inside, impressive design and construction.
