ENG: The palace was built by King Afonso (illegitimate son of King John I), between the years 1420 -1422, by the time of his second marriage to D. Constance de Noronha (daughter of the Count of Gijón and Noronha).
This manor house was inhabited mainly during the fifteenth century. In the following century there was a gradual abandonment and a consequent collapse (motivated by political and economic factors), a state that was aggravated by the twentieth century.
Between 1937 and 1959 there was a large and complex restoration intervention. The palace is classified as National Monument since 1910.
Is inserted in the historic center of Guimarães that is a unesco world heritage site.
