This nature preserve park has a multipurpose design. It is educational about what wetlands are and why they are environmentally important. There are three educational signboards that discuss butterflies, the construction of this wetland preserve, and a true flora and fauna sign describing the plants in the wetlands and the animals they benefit. These signs are spaced out along the quarter mile long oval walking path that winds through the key elements of Arrowbrook Nature Preserve Park in Herndon,VA. Part of the wheelchair accessible pathway around the wetland area is raised on stilts so you can walk out into the pond area to see the fish, frogs and turtles as well as the shorebirds and waterfowl when there in season. This park opened in the spring/summer of 2010 and is open to the public. No hours of operation were posted but dawn to dusk is the normal hours of parks of this kind. The flora and fauna signboard addresses the fish, turtles, frogs, birds and beavers this area can attract. The details about the flora describes the many kinds of deep watering flowering plants planted to stop erosion and filter and clean the stormwater runnoff while still providing food and shelter for many birds, like hummingbirds, songbirds, waterfowl and pheasants.
