JB-2 "Loon" Flying Bomb
The JB-2 is a U.S. built version of the German V-1 "Buzz Bomb" of WW II. This particular one was built by what is now Ford Aerospace, probably in early 1945. One plan for the invasion of Japan called for 10,000 JB-2's to be fired at the Japanese homeland from ships surrounding the islands to "soften them up" prior to any invasion attempt. This particular unit was sent to Ladd Field, near Fairbanks, for cold weather testing. It was mistakenly repainted in German colors and markings prior to coming here.
Repainted and repaired by 34d EMS, Elmendorf AFB. On Loan from U.S.A.F Museum.
