Although Catholicism has been practised in Earls Barton for many years, it had never had a dedicated building. Before this church was built in 1968, Mass was celebrated in Old Hall at the top of the square with Confession being heard before the service in an adjacent room with two chairs placed back to back.
The opening ceremony was on Friday 3rd May 1968 with the Mass being presided over by Bishop Charles Grant. The priest in charge of the building of the Church was Fr Roberts who chose St Anselm as patron.
