The has displays on the short history of Foynes as a flying boat port during the late 1930s and early 1940s. During that era commercial aircraft did not have sufficient range for trans-Atlantic flights. Foynes being on the west coast of Ireland became one of the largest civilian airports during World War II. The first trans-Atlantic flights began in July 1937 by Pan Am Sikorsky S-42 service from Botwood, Newfoundland and Labrador. The service at Foynes stopped 1946 with the opening of Shannon airport which opened in 1942.

The museum located in the former terminal building includes memorabilia of that era. It has the original weather and radio room. It also has a replica of the Boeing 314 flying boat.
