"In 1984, world famous architect, Philip Johnson (visit link) , completed One United Bank Center, later called Norwest Plaza (and usually referred to as the Cash Register building, or the Mailbox). [Note: It is now the Wells Fargo Center.] This [building] included an atrium that spanned Broadway and swallowed up much of I.M. Pei’s Mile High Plaza design." (from (visit link) )

The building is sometimes known as the "cash register", not because of the bank name, but because of the curved roofline. Many locals (myself included) were worried that snow and ice would slide off the curved roofline since the building had originally been designed for Houston, Texas, USA. The first winter, icicles thundered down on employees and pedestrians. A wooden covered shed and walkways were built until heating lines could be installed on the curved roofline to prevent ice buildup. Built in 1983 in downtown Denver, the building has 50 floors of office space and is one of the tallest in Denver.

The building was also the scene of a spectacular and deadly bank robbery in 1991. (visit link)
