Located in Tepic's main cemetery known as Panteon Hidalgo, this mausoleum is the most prominent structure after the site's chapel. It is the mausoleum of General Leopoldo Romano (full name= Leopoldo Romano Elguezábal ) and his family. Although there isn't much information available about Romano on the internet, he was apparently instrumental in the military during the French intervention in Mexico...and he served two terms as Governor of the State of Nayarit (although the title at the time was "Political Chief".) Gen. Romano died May 14, 1897.
The mausoleum has an ornate gate in the front, stained glass windows and a bust of the General in its center.
The General is apparently remembered sufficiently to have the funeral of his grandson covered on the local news. See this You Tube site for a glimpse of the cemetery (although not of the mausoleum.)
