The Salvation Army Citadel was originally the English Wesleyan Methodist Chapel and Day School of 1844. Relinquished by the Wesleyans in 1870, it was taken over by the Salvation Army in 1918. Originally it was a long wall entry chapel, the gable added after 1918.
