Mathematics: There continues a quantity of research into the effects of explosions and how to model their effects. In 2003 the department calculated that the fall out from The London Gunpowder plot would have been far more devastating than thought at the time.

Planetary Sciences: To develop and test the ExoMars work, we have created a 'Mars Yard' facility complete with Mars Soil Simulant-D (from DLR), and rock science targets. This soil is geophysically analogous to Martian regolith. There is also a region where sub-surface samples can be taken using rover drills and Moles. The substance is similar in texture and look to talcum powder.
Robotics: The Aberystwyth rover is built on a Concept-E chassis. This has six wheels and each can be independently driven and steered, and it has a 'wheel walking' capability, that is quite a sight to behold.
Material Physics: A great deal of research into the effects of atom thick layers of gold film on glass. These act as super efficient semi conductors is helping to drive the solar energy race to create a more efficient solar panel.
