The plaque is by a hotel on Alvarado Street. On the plaque is an American and Hungarian flag. There's also a quote by Abraham Lincoln.

The plaque reads: "Dedicated to the spirit of freedom by the Hungarian community of Monterey Peninsula and to express their gratitude to the United States of America.

In this bicentennial year we commemorate the Hungarian Nation's heroic struggle for freedom on the twentieth anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution.

May America forever be a symbol of freedom."
