In the shadow of the Vogel Windmill one will find the St. Bonifacious pump, a replica of one found in Dokkum, Friesland, the Netherlands. The pump in Holland was at the site where Bishop Boniface, an English missionary, and 52 of his followers were killed by the Frisian people in 754 A.D. In later years when the Frisians were converted to Christianity, the pump was named in Boniface’s memory. Town pumps were popular places for people to gather for social visits.
