This statue of San Pascual Bailon (1540-1592) is located on the southern portion of Puerto Vallarta's malecon (seaside walk). Pascual was a 16th century Spanish shepard and a member of the Franciscan order. He was canonized in 1690.
See the wikipedia article (
visit link) (which uses an alternative spelling of his name,Paschal Baylon).
There is a plaque at the site in Spanish which gives some information about Pascual...but, it doesn't indicate the name of the sculptor or the date of the work. No doubt, the statue was placed here because of all the surrounding restaurants catering to the tourist trade.
