This 56’ tall land-locked lighthouse guides visitors by auto rather than ship to this college town built around a large lake. The structure with its black and white spiral stripe and red “lantern room” stands tall along the side of the road, two miles east of the lake, to mark the entrance to the community of Storm Lake. This landmark, although standing amidst farm fields, fits in well with the theme of this Iowa town and welcomes guests to their community. Its beacon is designed to represent the community as a “shining light of Northwest Iowa.” It can be found at the intersection of US 71 and Hwy 7.
