Origin of Ipel river is to be found in forest in the Vepor hill (more exactly Sihla plateau), close to mountain village of Lom nad Rimavicou. Ipel flows southwards, reaches Slovak border with Hungary, turns to west and again to south, and close to village of Chlab ends in Danube river.

Total lenght is 232,5km (out of that 140km as border river between Slovakia and Hungary). Total vertical descent is 596 metres, river-basin 5151 square kms.


Best possible access is from village of Lom, or mountain pass Prašivá, where you can park your car. Return hike can take you about 2-3 hours. Hiking map:
