Peter Monteverdi (1934 - 1998) started in his father's car repair shop, then he became a salesman and importer of luxury cars like Ferrari, Rolls-Royce or Bentley. In the 1950s and early 1960s he created some race cars under the brand MBM; he participated in many races e.g. in the Formula 1 season of 1960/1961.

In 1967 he started to build and sell super luxury sports cars. Best known were the models High Speed 375 and Hai 440. In the late 1970s he started producing early luxury SUVs, mostly not self-developed, but based on other cars.

Car production was stopped in 1984 and the factory was turned into a museum. The museum is open for groups on request. They have at least one copy of every model created. In the base floor there is now a bike shop.

In 1990 Peter Monteverdi took over the Formula 1 team Onyx without success. In 1992 he created the sports car Hai 650 F1, it is unknown how many were sold, maybe less than 10.
