Patawalonga Lake (Pat to the locals apparently) is the site of the Holdfast Quay Marina and the lock is used to maintain the water level above the low tide level to eliminate the requirement for dredging the marina basin. It also serves to remove flooding issues to riverfront properties during spring tides.
The lock is located adjacent to barrage gates at the mouth of Patawalonga Creek.
The lock has a automatic retractable walkway which serves as a pedestrian access across the barrage.
