This free museum is an offshoot of the Science Museum in London.
It exists to promote an appreciation and understanding of media through eight floors of FREE galleries, an extensive collection and research facility.
There are also 3 cinemas inside the museum including a 3D IMAX theatre.
The cinemas are not free and if visiting you should check in advance to book seats.
At first sight Bradford may not be an obvious choice for a media museum, but the city has a long association with the film industry. Indeed an early invention in the file industry was the Cieroscope invented in Manningham in 1896. In 2009 Bradford became the world’s first UNESCO city of film.
In 2002 the museum purchased the collection of photography belonging to the Royal Photograph Society.
The museum has a cafe, a bar and unusually for a museum a picnic room where you can bring your own food to eat.
There is a car park at the rear of the building. There is also a free bus in Bradford which connects a number of sites including, here, the Interchange rail and bus station and the Forster Square railway station.
