Athos
1996-2007
Athos, a German Shepherd, the first canine to join Lexington's Police Department lies here in his final resting place. Athos came to Lexington from Budapest, Hungary in 1998 to begin his career. Athos had a distinguished and successful career tracking suspects and assisting in drug and narcotic search and seizures, and was called on numerous times to assist other police agencies. Athos will always be remembered as a loving dog that was quick to respond in performing the duties of which he was trained. Athos retired from service in July 2005. He was laid to rest on June 17, 2007 after several years of suffering with hip dysplaysia. There will never be another like him and it was an honor to have him as part of the Department. He will be greatly missed by many.
