This wagon wheel is found leaning against the Bergeson cabin which resides in Big Sioux Recreation Area in rural Brandon. The home was built from hand-hewn cottonwood in 1869 by the Bergeson brothers, Norwegian immigrants and the first settlers in Split Rock Township. Ole Bergeson and his wife later raised eight children in this tiny dwelling although extra rooms were added over the years to accommodate their growing family. The wagon wheel resting against the front of the cabin is a reminder of the lives of pioneers in the early years of South Dakota.
