Merkur je nejmenší planeta ze Slunecní soustavy, obíhá na nejbližší dráze ke Slunci. Jeho velikost je pouze 40% našeho Mesíce. Je tak menší než nekteré mesíce Jupitera a Saturnu. Jeden obeh kolem Slunce trvá pouze 87,969 dne. Jedná se o pomalu rotující planetu, pri dvou obletech slunce se trikrát otocí kolem své osy.
V rímské mitologii je casto zobrazován jako posel bohu, jeho predností je rychlost. Proto bývá zobrazován jako mladík v pohybu, zde je zobrazen s lokomotivou - symbolem rychlosti a pokroku.
Ceres je prvním objeveným a soucasne svým rovníkovým prumerem 975 km nejvetším objektem obíhajícím mezi drahami Marsu a Jupiteru, tedy v oblasti hlavního pásu planetek. Svoji hmotností predstavuje asi 30 % hmotnosti všech malých teles ve vnitrní cásti slunecní soustavy.
Ceres byla v rímské mytologii bohyní plodnosti a úrody, její slavnosti se slavily v týdnu od 12. dubna, behem kterého se bohyni obetovaly první snupky obilí.
