this museum there are works of painting, sculpture and ceramics Portuguese, more than 200 artists. It is one of the good Portuguese museums on the history of art.

History
1926 - 1960
This space was originally conceived by writer Anthony Deer, with the aim of bringing the painter José Malhoa their homeland, Caldas da Rainha.
In 1926, the artist offered one of his works, the oil "Queen Leonor, " the city and the following year, establishing itself the "League of Friends of the Museum José Malhoa, " for which the artist would donate more works in 1932.
The June 17, 1933, a ministerial decree confirms a favorable opinion of the Supreme Council of Fine Arts, authorizing the creation of the Museum Malhoa Jose. "The museum would then be opened on April 28, 1934, the birthday of Jose Malhoa, who died on October 26 last year, the Museum was temporarily installed in the "House of the Boat, " Park D. Charles I, a building donated by Thermal Hospital, opening annually to the public between April 28 and October 26.

The final draft, architects "Paulino Montês" (1897-1962) and Eugene Correia (1897-1985), is completed in 1937. The August 11, 1940, gives the inauguration of the building under the provincial celebration of the Centennial Foundation and the Restoration of Portugal, being delivered with all collections, the Junta de Extremadura province, the name of the institution was Thus changed to "Provincial Museum Malhoa Jose. "

In 1960, the Junta de Extremadura Province was abolished, and the management of the museum come to be ensured by the Directorate General of Higher Education and Fine Arts Division of the Ministry of National Education, the institution was renamed itself the Museum of José Malhoa.

1960 - present
In 1962, the Education Department is organized and in 1964, is exposed to ceramic collection in an area called the "Museum of Ceramics. "

In 1977, as part of celebrations of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Elevation of Caldas da Rainha City, is organizing the event "Expo Caldas-77 - Retrospective of Ceramics. "

In 1983, will be held at the Museum, an anthology exhibition to mark the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Death of Jose Malhoa.

In 1992, the collection of Antonio Montês is bequeathed to the museum, according to the will of his widow, Júlia Paramos Montês, in 1996, this collection would be presented to the public in the exhibition "Antonio Montês - Malhoa Jose Museum", on the centenary of the birth of founder of the institution.

In 2005, the Museum marked the 150th Anniversary of the Birth Centenary of Jose Malhoa and Death of Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro with the exhibition "Malhoa and Bordalo: confluences of a generation, "among other events.

In 2007, the name of the institution is changed again, to "Jose Museum Malhoa, " according to the guidelines of the Program for Restructuring the State's Central Administration.

The museum José Malhoa suffered between September 2006 and December 2008, several redevelopment and rehabilitation, a temporary nucleus was then established at the Museum of Cycling. The Museum reopened on December 19, with a new presentation of collections and various improvements to the visitor reception.

The museum has collections of paintings, sculpture, medals, drawing and pottery of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

For group visits by appointment is necessary. It is not always possible for technical guided tour of the Museum, depending on the programming already scheduled and the number of elements per group.
