The City of Maebashi lies on the flat Kanto plain surrounded by mountains in the interior of the main island of Honshu. There are few tall buildings, so anything over a few stories offers great views. The Aenon mall. located on the southern edge of the city, looks out over the city with Mt. Akagi in the background.
Maebashi, a city of about 350,000, is the capital of Gumma Prefecture, the futherst inland captial city. Its location, protected by the mountains, gives it a mild climate. Japan's second longest river in Japan runs through the city.
