Japonská zahrada Šówa-en byla vybudována po více než dvouletých prípravách na území puvodní botanické zahrady v roce 2004. Hlavní zásluhu na vzniku zahrady má pan Eišin Harada, predseda Japonské zahradní asociace, umelec a filosof, který projekt vytvoril, v Japonsku ho pak v predbežné podobe sestavil a v Plzni pak spolu se svými zahradníky zrealizoval do soucasné podoby.

Tato japonská zahrada je pojata jako prevážne kamenná. Rostliny jsou pouze doprovodným prvkem celé kompozice. Zahrada vytvorená u mohutného dubu není rozsahem velká, její výmera je asi 150 m2, je však plná nejruznejších symbolu navozujících japonské tradice a filozofii i vazbu na Plzen.

Hlavním motivem zahrady jsou tri velké kameny, vyjadrující tri podoby budhy Amidy, který chrání lidi od zla. Kamenný symbol trí budhu je zároven vyjádrením míru a pripomíná tzv. Atomový dóm v Hirošime. Tato památka na výbuch atomové bomby je pozustatkem unikátní stavby Prumyslového a obchodního paláce, budovy, kterou projektoval ceský architekt Jan Letzel a která jediná zustala po výbuchu v Hirošime stát.
Dalšími motivy zahrady jsou tri pešiny – bílá, cervená a modrá. Bílá pešina je cestou vedoucí do ráje. Cervená pešina vyjadruje utrpení soucasného života. Modrá pešina je symbolem more. Kameny kolem pešin jsou pripomínkou kopcu kolem Plzne. Znázornen je i prístav, který je symbolem setkávání lidí, a želva symbolizující dlouhý život.

Velmi významným prvkem zahrady je motiv jerába letícího k atomovému dómu a zvestujícího mír. Starý dub je symbolem ochránce mesta. V zahrade je umístena i vzácná, více než tri sta let stará kamenná lucerna ozarující tento malý kousek sveta. Z japonského obradu vuní jsou použity kamenné tvary, mající vztah k Príbehu prince Genji napsanému pred dvanácti sty lety.

Japanese Showa-en Garden was built over more than two years preparing for the original botanical garden in 2004. The main incentive for the gardens of Mr. Eišin Harada, President of the Association of Japanese garden, an artist and philosopher who created the project in Japan, he then compiled in a preliminary form in Pilsen, then together with their gardeners realized in its present form.

The Japanese garden is mainly conceived as a stone. Plants are the only normative element of the composition. Garden created by the massive oak range is large, its area is about 150 m2, but is full of symbols of inducing a variety of Japanese tradition and philosophy, and links to Plzen.

The main motive of the garden are three large stones, representing three forms of Buddha, amides, which protects people from evil. Stone Buddha is a symbol of the three at the same time expressing peace and recalls called the Atomic Dome in Hiroshima. This monument to the explosion of atomic bombs left over from the unique structure of the Industrial and Commercial Palace, a building designed by Czech architect Jan Letzel and that alone remained after the explosion in Hiroshima state.
Other motives are three garden paths - white, red and blue. White path is the path leading to Paradise. Red path expresses the suffering of contemporary life. Blue Sea is a symbol path. The stones are a reminder of trails around the hills around Pilsen. Representation is the marina, which is a symbol of bringing people together, and the turtle symbolizes long life.

A very important element of the garden is the theme of flying crane to the Atomic Dome and heralding peace. The old oak is a symbol of the city's protector. The garden is located and a rare, more than three hundred year old stone lantern illuminating this little piece of the world. The Japanese ceremony aroma stone shapes are used, related to the story of Prince Genji written twelve hundred years ago.
