These beautiful statues were erected to celebrate a local carnival.

There is a merker which reads: A todos los Carnavaleros, que generacion tras generation, han hecho de nuestro de carnaval la mas importante fiesta popular del caribe Mexicano.

This is translated as:

To all the Carnival, that generation after generation, have made our carnival the most important festival of the Mexican Caribbean.
