An abbreviated version of The Ten Commandments as found in the front lawn of the Kootenai County Courthouse.
The monument was donated by the Fraternal Order of Eagles. A dedication at the base of the monument reads;
Donated to

Idaho State Aerie and
Idaho State Axillary
Fraternal Order of Eagles
June 1973
F.O.E.'s Ten Commandments project started in 1951 which has placed over 150 donated monuments over the years. Th ACLU sued over a similar monument placed in Austin Texas, eventually resulting in a Supreme Court decision, Van Orden v. Perry allowing monuments such as these to remain on public property.
The inscription text reads:
the Ten Commandments
AM the LORD thy God.
Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Thou shalt not make to thyself any graven
images.
Thou shalt not take the Name of the Lord
thy God in vain.
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Honor thy father and thy mother, that thy
days may be long upon the land which
the Lord thy God giveth thee.
Thou shalt not kill.
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Thou shalt not steal.
Thou shalt not bear false witness against
thy neighbor.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor
his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his
cattle, nor anything that is thy neighbor's.
