The castle was built in 1275, but completely destroyed in the earthquake of 1356 and then rebuilt. It was originally moated, but the moat was dried in the late 18th century. In 1773 it became property of the community. It was completely renovated between 1963 and 1968.

The stamp is a semi-postal stamp of the 1977 castles series for Pro Patria. It is 40+20, i.e. 0.40 for postage, 0.20 for the Pro Patria foundation for nature and cultural heritage protection
