This gauge is set on the south bank of the Nakdong River, just west of the Hucheon Bridge in the city of Sangju, Korea.

High banks have been built along the Nakdong River where it flows on the northern edge of the city of Sangju, Korea. But, at normal river level are bike and hiking paths, sports fields, and even a large band shell on the north side of the river from this measuring gauge.

During the rainy season or times of unusual rainfall, the river may rise above its narrow bed to fill in the larger basin, making these gauges important indicators of the river's level. There are also warning sirens nearby, on the north side.
