These panels were installed in 1988 as part of a redevelopment of this, the oldest part of Bradford at the bottom of Ivegate. Each of the 2 panels contain 15 silhouettes.

Some of the panels are fairly obvious, like the soccer ball or the rugby football. There are also silhouettes, of the author J.B. Priestley, famous local business man and benefactor Sir Titus Salt and composer Frederick Delius.

The city hall is also present, as well as smoky chimney factories representing some of Bradford’s history.

As part of your visit you may wish to work out what the remaining 23 panels represent.

Whilst in Bradford you may wish to follow the Bradford Sculpture Trail to see other public works of art. (visit link)

The panels were designed by Peter Parkinson, who as well as being a sculptor, teaches blacksmithing to students at West Dean College. They were then constructed by Richard Quinnell MBE CWCB. (visit link)
