Weithin sichtbar erhebt sich der Turm der Hattstedter Kirche über das weite Marschenland und den Deich. Der Turm dient nun schon seit über 500 Jahren der Küstenschifffahrt als Seezeichen. Erstmals um 1240 wurde die Hattstedter Kirche urkundlich erwähnt. Sie wurde Maria, der Mutter Jesu, geweiht und in drei Bauabschnitten erbaut.
