The mosque was built on Lisbon Street Mosque (Blue District), near the Spanish Steps. It's kind of oriental prayer room wide, surmounted by a dome and minaret with outside ramp.

It was built between 1979 and 1985 with the help of a large group of Islamic countries, the Islamic community's commitment to Lisbon and the Lisbon City Council who donated the land. It has religious purposes and also social support to Muslims who live, temporarily or permanently the City area. The mosque is the place for believers to prayer and meditation, individually and collectively and a much appreciated rest, social interaction and sharing.
