This sculpture is approximately 4 meters in height. The inscription on the base is "FIFA World Cup." As can be seen in the photos, it has been badly defaced by graffiti.
This large stadium was built in 2001 for the 17th FIFA World Cup matches, the first to be hosted in Asia, and the first to be co-hosted by two countries - Korea and Japan.
With a seating capacity of over 40,000, this stadium is now home to the professional Daejeon Citizen soccer team. It is a landmark on National Highway 1, immediately off the Yeseon exit if IC-251.
