Park Kolište I. je soucástí parkového areálu založeného na okruhu rušeného mestského opevnení v místech dnešního Moravského nám. a ul. Kolište. Pojmenování parku je odvozeno od názvu otevreného prostoru pred hradbami opevnení. Na kolišti pred hradbami byly vysazovány procházkové lipové aleje už od roku 1793.

V roce 1835 bylo celé kolište od Moravského námestí až k parku Denisovy sady (dríve Františkov) osazeno alejemi, které byly od roku 1836 rušeny výstavbou nádraží a celnice. V polovine 19. století byl po zrušení hradeb a bastionu mezi dnešními ulicemi Kolište a Rooseveltova založen reprezentacní okružní park. V roce 1864 byly zahradníkem Antonínem Šebánkem zahájeny další úpravy parku. Hlavní osou parku byla stredová alej s hudebním pavilonem, promenádní stromovka s kavárnou, rondely s lavicemi a kvetinovými rabaty, s litinovými kašnami, s meteorologickým sloupem z roku 1886 a s pomníky. Na konci 19. století a ve 20. století byly v okružním parku postupne postaveny reprezentacní budovy. Park Kolište je prvním významným príkladem okružního parku v ceských zemích.

Kolište-I Park is part of a park site based on a range of fortifications in the disturbed areas of the Moravian square. The name of the park is derived from the name of open space in front of the fortification walls. On the walls were Kolište walking planted lime avenue since 1793.

In 1835, the entire Kolište from Moravian square to Park Denis Gardens (formerly Francis's) mounted avenues, which were abolished in 1836 by the construction of the station and customs.
