Beauty of the waterfall, the biggest in Croatia is beyond words. Veliki slap, or the big waterfall is 78 m high, born from Plitvice stream which by the foot of the rock wall where its waters ends through gorgeous water curtain, becomes river Korana.
Amazing at any given time of the year, but most impressive when frozen! At least I though so. When we visited it during winter, when landscape was covered by snow there were almost no people there at weekend, it was incredibly quiet and humble, it was like a landscape you dream about.
Simply said: Veliki slap will take you away. Close your eyes, step close and let its water sprinkle your face.
Most people only stop by its bottom - here most pictures are taken from. But if you afford yourself little extra time and a little more effort, you can as well view it from above. Not if you have problems with height, though. Series of spectacular views will reward you for your try, so convince yourself - it's worth every drop of sweat, but stick to the paths. Do it in dry weather, my revisit to Plitvice was on beautiful autumn day from which these pictures are from.
