Plzen tvori vyznamny zeleznicni uzel, ve kterem se sbihaji trati ze sesti hlavnich smeru: od Prahy, Chebu, Ceskych Budejovic, Domazlic, Zelezne Rudy a Zatce. Pocatky zeleznicniho spojeni Plzne se svetem spadaji do roku 1861, kdy byl postaven prvni usek tzv. Ceske zapadni drahy z bavorskeho Brodu nad Lesy do Plzne - Skvrnan.
Plzenske hlavni nadrazi je umisteno temer ve stredu mesta a 9 mensich stanic je na okraji. Frekvence vychozich, koncicich a tranzitnich vlaku v prubehu 24 hodin cini cca 230 vlaku. Dopravu zajistuji Ceske drahy a.s.
Pres Plzen jezdi vlaky vyssi kvality EC a IC a mezinarodni rychliky, ktere umoznuji prime spojeni s: Frankfurtem nad Mohanem, Mnichovem, Norimberkem a Stuttgartem.
Dva prime pary mezinarodnich rychliku spojuji Plzen s mesty ve Slovenske republice, konkretne se Zilinou, Popradem a Kosicemi.
Plzen is an important railway junction, where the converging lines of the six main directions: from Prague, Cheb, Ceske Budejovice, Domazlice, Zelezna Ruda and Zatec. The beginnings of railway connection Plzen with the world fall in 1861, when it was built the first section of the so-called Western Railways Czech Brod of the Bavarian Forest in Pilsen - Skvrnany.

Despite Pilsen trains high quality EC and IC and international express trains, which allows direct connection to Frankfurt / Main, Munich, Nuremberg and Stuttgart.
Two pairs of direct international express trains connect Plzen with cities in the Slovak Republic, namely, Zilina, Kosice and Poprad.
