Khao San Rd was once a street of rice millers (so the name translates from Thai). Back then this school would have fit better in, now Khao San is home to hordes of international backpackers, who flock in to enjoy the noisy and vibrant nightlife and to plan their journeys around south east Asia.
This sign is directly outside the entrance to the small school. All I know of the school comes from the sign. The school was founded in 1919 as a Thai/Muslim institution. Since then it was renamed once, and had its curriculum expanded. It is still in operation as a school, at an hour earlier than most Khao San Rd inhabitants awaken, I saw several school students present.
