This beautiful fort, located beside the beach of Houmt Souk, is composed of red ochre stone, and recently underwent important renovations. It was built in the 15th century.
It was ordered by Sultan Abu Fares el Hafsi, who went to Djerba in 1432 to counter the campaign led by the Spanish King Alfonso V of Aragon himself . Opposite the fort, a large plaza with huge tanks used to supply the inhabitants with water.
