University of Oklahoma - 100 Years - Norman, OK - Commercial Commemorations on Waymarking.com

?These twin arches on the OU campus are to celebrate the University's first 100 years. A student committee headed up this project which involved students, faculty, staff, and alumni as well as supporters in the community.

The arches are located on the south end of Van Vleet Oval, north of the campus dorms.


The Centennial Arches

These Centennial Arches stand in tribute to the students, faculty, staff and alumni whose 100 years of dedication, diligence, enthusiasm and sacrifice have transformed The University of Oklahoma from a struggling territorial school into a major, comprehensive institution of higher learning.

The drive to construct these arches as lasting symbols of Sooner pride and devotion was the project of the Student Centennial Arch Campaign Committee, who enlisted the support of the individuals, families and organizations listed below in an effort to leave tangible evidence of our presence here.

To all who follow us on this campus, we say, this was our University, now entrusted to your keeping. In the year of the Centennial Celebration, December 19, 1989, to December 19, 1990, we were here, and we cared.
