Cheonan Heungtaryeong Dance Festival 2010
천안 흥타령 축제 2010

Cheonan, Korea, is a rich history embodied in song, dance, and folklore. The Cheonan Heungtaryeong Dance Festival gives expression to these traditions, but goes far beyond to encompass every form of dance including modern styles, and features international dancing groups from around the world.

The festival's main venue is Samgori Park, itself with a history going back to the days when the kings traveling south from Seoul would stop here at this three-way intersection, each road leading to a different part of the country in the south. The other venues are the Arario Square in the heart of the city's business district, and a sports stadium.

In addition to the many dance performances, there are two parades through the downtown area. A unique part of the festival are the many opportunities for interactive experiences and audience participation. What a unique sight to see dancers from India, in all their regalia, learning to play traditional Korean drums!

Of course, no festival would be complete without food, and Cheonan Heungtaryeong Dance Festival is no exception. From handmade noodles to Cheonan's own winery, there is an eating experience sure to be memorable.

The 2009 festival was canceled due to the worldwide outbreak of H1N1 flu.
