The town wall of Basel was built between 1362 and 1398 because the town had expanded out of the older wall of the 11th century. The wall remained intact for over 400 years. In 1859 the city council decided to destroy the wall. Only this small part of about 150 meters and three towers in different quarters were saved from destruction and were preserved as part of the city's heritage.
Date Built: 1362-1398
