Now known as the Saunder-Pettit-Chapman-Cook Plantion house was built in about 1848 for John H. Saunders and his wife Martha A. Pettit Saunders. During the Civil War with the engagements at Ditch Bayou in 1864 the house was used as a hospital for soldiers from both sides. There are several graves of military dead just to the west of the house.

The house is currently used as a bed and breakfast and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
