There is a plaque on the pump, which has metal cladding and painted green.
"This old pump was restored in year 2000 to celebrate the new Millennium and as a memorial to the young men of Grassington and District who died as a result of military service during the 20th century."
The spout pours in to a stone trough, which has a metal wire grid over it. The handle looks to have been removed and it may not be in the original position. The stream which feeds the pump is piped under the square now.
The square was originally a grassed area. In 1973 it was cobbled with funds raised by the Chamber of Trade. Known originally as Market Place, the centre paved area accommodated underground toilets from 1926 to 1976. This pump had three troughs, at first and was known as the "Fountain". It served the whole village until 1890's when Grassington Waterworks Company formed. It was still in use until 1930s.
In 2000 the pump was restored, see above plaque words, and still operates today. from Visit Link
