Constructed of concrete, this horse trough is situated on the verge of Carrington Road near the Victoria Road intersection and provided relief to horses making the trip from outlying farms to central New Plymouth during the early 20th Century.
According to the local newspaper of the time [Taranaki Herald, Volume LIV, Issue 13558, 9 November 1907, Page 4], this trough dates from then when it was reported "The water has been turned on to the horse drinking trough at the junction of Victoria Road and Carrington Road."
