The Holt Farm is located in the historic Palmyra area of Utah, near Spanish Fork.
"Fort Palmyra" was established in this area in 1852, after the valley was selected by Apostle George A Smith as a location for a settlement due to its agricultural attributes. Unfortunately, the lack of building materials/trees made the area difficult to build homes or structures for protection, which was needed from the local Indians. The "Walker Wars" which occurred in the summer of 1853, was the name given the skirmish between the Latter-day Saint pioneers that settled in Palmyra and the Ute Indians that lived in the valley.
The difficulties between the white settlers and the tribe Ute Chief Wakara ("Walker") lasted about a year, and was the impetus for the merge of Palmyra with the settlers of nearby Spanish Fork.
Some of the first settlers to Palmyra were Enoch Reece, John Holt, John H. Reed, and William Pace.
