This burger place is considered one of the best places to get a burger in Alaska, where you can get hamburgers as well as halibut and salmon sandwiches, and enjoy it either in a lodge-themed eating area or outside by the brook.

In the midtown section of Anchorage, on the Old Seward Highway, is the Arctic Roadrunner Local Burgerman establishment. The restaurant has been cited in a couple web sites as being one of the best burger places in Alaska, and features a variety of offerings on the menu.

According to one web site, the menu selections may be limited, but I prefer the word, 'focused.' There are several hamburger dressing styles available, from the All American Burger, to the Pepper Burger, to the Mexican Burger. Then there are the two great burgers: the Kodiak Islander, which is a 1/4 pound of beef, lettuce, tomato, green pepper, ham, bologna, and salami, and American and Mozzarella cheese; and the Kenai Whopper, which is TWO half pound patties, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, green pepper and Mozzarella cheese. But, if hamburger isn't what you are craving, then there is a selection of halibut and salmon sandwiches. I selected the halibut sandwich and absolutely loved it - just the right juiciness! They also have grilled cheese. For sides, they have good milkshakes, and the usual french fries, and their version of onion rings, which I found to be good, but on the greasy side.

Part of the charm about the place is the dining area. While the kitchen and counter areas are the usual fast food-take out style, the sitting area has a wooden lodge appearance. The decor includes pictures of many people who have visited; some are recognizable personalities. Also, mounted are some oddities, such as a wooley mammoth tusk. If you don't want to eat inside, there are some tables set up near the brook that flows by. When I was there, I saw a few salmon there swimming upstream.

The restaurant has been there since 1964. They are open Monday-Saturday, 10 am - 9 pm, and closed Sunday. They are also peculiar in that they accept CASH ONLY.
